Water Tank Waterproofing

A leaking water tank costs money in three directions at once: water loss, structural damage to whatever sits below or around it, and the risk of contamination in a potable supply.

The tank material determines the system. A rusted GI tank with failing joints doesn't get the same treatment as a cracked RCC underground reservoir.

Seamless lining system

GRP Lining for Water Tanks

GRP — glass reinforced plastic — is applied as glass fibre mat saturated with resin, built up in layers and finished with a gel coat. It cures into a seamless, jointless shell bonded to the tank surface.

For tanks, that seamlessness is the whole point. There are no laps or joints to fail, and the lining follows the tank's shape including corners, fillets, inlets, outlets and access hatches.

Swimming Pool Waterproofing & Leak Repair

A pool that keeps dropping isn't always leaking. Evaporation in UAE summer conditions is significant, and splash-out from heavy use adds to it.

Our first job is to establish whether you actually have a leak, and if so, whether it's in the shell, the balance tank, the pipework or a fitting. Waterproofing a pool shell that was never the problem is an expensive way to learn nothing.

Pool leaks concentrate in penetrations and transitions — light housings, inlets, drains, the junction between shell and balance tank. Those details get the attention, not just the open shell.

A pool has to be emptied for shell waterproofing. Any contractor offering to waterproof a full pool is describing a different job.

Wet area leaks are usually discovered by the neighbour downstairs.

By the time a stain appears on the ceiling below, water has been moving through the slab for a while and the repair now involves two apartments, two owners and often a building management company.

We waterproof:

For new work, waterproofing goes in before tiling over a properly prepared and graded screed, turned up the walls to the required height, with drains, floor traps and pipe penetrations detailed with reinforcing tape or fillets. We water-test before anything is tiled over.

For existing leaks, the source needs finding first. Water travelling from a shower can appear several metres away, and re-tiling the visible wet corner rarely stops it.

Roof and basement waterproofing has recovery time the structure dries between rainfall. Tanks and pools never dry out.

This is why a general-purpose waterproofing coating is not a substitute for a proper tank lining, however good it is on a roof.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does water tank waterproofing cost in Abu Dhabi?

It depends on tank size, material, current condition and the system specified. A sound RCC tank needing a straightforward GRP lining prices very differently from a rusted GI tank with dozens of failing joints. We inspect and quote per tank.

How long does GRP lining last?

A correctly installed GRP lining on a properly prepared substrate gives many years of service. The variables that shorten it are preparation quality, resin specification and how the tank is cleaned and maintained. Preparation is where most failures start.

Is GRP lining safe for drinking water?

It can be, provided the resin and gel coat system used is specified for potable water contact. Always ask a contractor which resin system they are using and what it is approved for.

My underground tank is leaking into the basement can it be repaired without breaking it out?

In most cases yes. The tank is drained, the leak paths identified, cracks injected where they're active, and the interior lined. Full demolition is rarely necessary.

My pool keeps losing water. Is it definitely a leak?

Not necessarily evaporation and splash-out are significant in UAE conditions. A simple bucket test over 24–48 hours separates evaporation from a genuine leak, and we can carry that out during inspection before recommending any work.

Do I need to waterproof a bathroom before tiling?

Yes. Tiles and grout are not waterproof. The membrane goes under the tiles, over a graded screed, turned up the walls and detailed around the drain. Waterproofing applied after tiling is a surface treatment, not a system.

Do you work with facility management companies on multiple tanks?

Yes, we handle scheduled re-lining and repair programmes across multiple tanks on a single site or across a property portfolio.
